It was one of those songs that was gifted. I sat down and all the words poured out at once while strumming along. It's fitting as the same can be said of my sobriety. One day I woke up and this massive weight that had been dragging me down was suddenly no where in sight. I didn't do anything to deserve it; it was a gift.
"Get Better" is about trying to honor that gift each day.
lyrics
CHORUS
I’ve been trying to get better,
I can weather the storm from home,
They won’t see but it don’t matter,
Growing up’s not just for show.
VERSE
I’ve been trying to listen more,
The words others lend are the ship to the shore,
The waves and wind,
Push me back,
I open my eyes as I hear the crack,
Of the thunder it rumbles,
And the rain it pours,
The thunder it rumbles,
And the rain it pours,
The waves and wind,
They push me on,
I open my mind to ride the storm.
CHORUS
I’ve been trying to get better,
I can weather the storm from home,
They won’t see but it don’t matter,
Growing up’s not just for show.
VERSE
I’ve been trying to breathe deep,
Hold it in slowly release,
Intention of stretching my muscles out,
My mind and body with the ground & clouds,
Clay’s in need of rain in this play that needs a change,
The drought of the story got me worried day-to-day,
That intentions can’t make this up,
Grounding my heart with hope and love.
CHORUS
I’ve been trying to get better,
I can weather the storm from home,
They won’t see but it don’t matter,
Growing up’s not just for show.
OUTRO CHORUS
I’ve been trying to get better,
I can weather the storm from home,
They won’t see but it don’t matter,
Growing up’s not just for show,
I’m not lying cause I’m doing better,
I can weather the storm on the road,
Now I see that it does matter,
How you live is how you’ll grow,
How you live is how you’ll grow,
You will live and you will grow.
You will live and you will grow.
You will live and you will grow.
