"Shapes of a Soul" was one of the first songs I wrote for the Roots of a Rebellion album of the same name. It was originally written and demoed in my room at Brasher Ave in Nashville in January 2016.
The song was born after one of the hardest years for the band. Financial and emotional struggles as both a band and individuals were trying to tear us apart, but we held each other together.
We listened to each other.
We supported each other.
And, we grew (up) together.
lyrics
Verse
Every year I wonder where I'll be this time,
Once the Earth does a run around the Sun,
And passes 3-6-5,
Cause I don't care about money,
And I don't want to fight,
We're here to build something,
We need all hands to climb.
Chorus
I can see the shapes of our dreams,
With the shapes of us all,
The shapes of a soul,
I can believe in the shapes of our dreams,
With the shapes of us all,
The shapes of a soul.
Verse
When your brain's on fire,
Water's all around you,
Just take a breath and dive on in,
Cleanse and rest all the things in your head,
That prevent you from beginning to
Explore the shapes of the people around you,
Or trust in the light that the world provides you,
Our souls aren't made of gold,
But rebuilt by collective hope.
Chorus
I can see the shapes of our dreams,
With the shapes of us all,
The shapes of a soul,
I can believe in the shapes of our dreams,
With the shapes of us all,
The shapes of a soul.
